Today, we talk about a burning question, “Do you curbstone, or get your dealers license?”

I’ve been getting a lot of questions in my YouTube Channel lately.  I want to address it and give you options and it’s up to you on which road to take.

The question is, “Tony, when I buy and sell cars for profit, should I just buy and sell on the side, like a curbstoner? ” A curbstoner is an unlicensed car dealer.  They are used car salesman at dealer lots.

When you go to an automotive dealer and drive in, they come to greet you.  Some of those are sneaky people and will actually try to make a deal with you on the side, before you even trade-in the car with a dealer.

They’ll make a deal with you saying, “Hey, the dealer’s probably going to give you $4000 for it.  I’ll offer you $4300 cash.  Here’s my number.  Call me later.  I’ll give you the cash and you can come back and buy the car”.

So a curbstoner works at a dealer, snatches the trade-ins before the deal actually happens at the office with the dealer.  Not a lot of people know that.  They just know that curbstoning is buying and selling cars for profit illegally.

You can buy and sell cars on the side.  Some people say they can only do five to six cars per year, getting them registered under their name.

That’s fine if you want to do low volume and make $2000-$3000 per car.  You’ll do five to seven cars per year legally and there’s nothing wrong with that.  It’s $15,000-$25,000 extra per year.

Then, the other side of it is, “Should I get my dealer’s license?”  So do you curbstone, or get your dealers license?

If you plan to do volume, and buy and sell a lot of cars, it’s something that you may want to do.  But, the misconception is getting a dealer’s license is hard and you’ll spend a lot of money.  And, that is true to a certain point.
